Photographer Lieve Blancquaert, one of Belgium’s finest, travelled across Europe during spring 2023 with her friend Marije. Slow travel made for spontaneous encounters in no fewer than 27 member states, with Europeans from all over the continent. Lieve came back with disarming portraits and life stories that give us insight into today’s Europe. Both big issues and small personal stories are covered. Lieve’s work adresses the current challenges in the European Union yet also tries to unearth what Europeans can be proud of. As was the case in Lieve’s previous projects, the focus here is on people.
‘We Are Europe’ is an informative and emotional journey, from March 16 till June 30 in Mechelen. Follow Lieve’s journey in the documentary for VRT MAX & VRT CANVAS.
